DID YOU KNOW? Preventing child abuse is everyone's responsibility?
It is every adult's moral responsibility to protect possible victims by reporting the suspected abuse or neglect to the responsible authorities. Sexual abuse of minors is a pervasive societal problem and only concerted and sustained efforts by all adults in every segment of society can help protect children and youth. For particular help you can call: Frances J. Nugent, Director of Office for Healing and Prevention for the Diocese of Worcester at 508.929.4363 (direct line and confidential voicemail).
As a reminder, St. Mary's Parish and OLV School follow the guidelines of the national Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People approved by the US Bishops and the policies of the Diocese of Worcester in screening those who work with children in our care and in helping victims of abuse find healing. All staff and volunteers, 14 years and older, who are working with youth in our parish and/or school, are required to attend a Safe Environment Training and to have an updated CORI on file. If you have completed the two hour Safe Environment/Child Abuse Training Course in another parish, or have completed the Boy Scouts of America "Youth Protection" training, please provide a copy of your certificate or card to St. Mary's Parish or OLV School. Please contact: Liz Wondolowski, St. Mary's/ OLV's Safe Environment Coordinator at 508-278-0320 with any questions or concerns.
Know Your Kids' School. Parents and Guardians have the primary responsibility for protecting their children from all potential harm. When choosing a nursery, daycare center, or school, parents should inspect the building and grounds to make sure there are no areas where children can play or work that are "off limits" to parents. Such facilities should have a policy that welcomes parents to visit the center or school without prior appointment. For particular help you may call: Frances J.
